Matlock Musical Theatre, formerly known as Matlock Operatic Society, has been in existence in various forms for over one hundred years.

We are a company of amateur performers and singers producing quality musical shows and concerts in and around Derbyshire. For the last five years we have been performing our annual musical at the Pomegranate Theatre in Chesterfield due to the lack of theatre space in the local area. We also perform at stately homes in the area over the festive season, in the Painted Hall at Chatsworth, evening promenade concerts and carol singing at Haddon Hall and we added Hardwick Hall to our list this year.

This year we’re going back to our roots and getting closer to the community again by performing a touring production in smaller venues. Rehearsals have been going splendidly and we look forward to presenting this ambitious project to the public.

MMT are presenting a revue celebrating the Queen’s 60 years on the throne by performing show tunes and pop songs from every decade of her reign, most with a dance element. ‘Right Royal Revue’ will encompass everything from Zadok the Priest (sung at the Coronation) through My Fair Lady, Beatles, Bohemian Rhapsody and a Lion King selection to Andrew Lloyd-Weber’s latest hit Love Never Dies and popular choirmaster Gareth Malone’s ‘Sing London’ medley (to give a brief nod to the fact we also have the Olympics staged in Britain this year). There are also comedy items dotted throughout.

The Revue is being co-directed by Sue Ahlburg and Kathryn Kersey. The society is very excited to have these two longstanding members of the group taking the helm for the first time, bringing fresh vision and original ideas to the production. Once again the music direction for the show is in the very safe hands of Delph Richards who will ensure the best is brought out of every number. The group have been hard at rehearsing since January in order to put best foot forward (and voice!).

There is certain to be something for everyone to enjoy and we want to create fun atmosphere like an indoor street party vibe where everyone can sing along, if they want, to celebrate this momentous year, in a good old British fashion.

‘Right Royal Revue’ is an ‘on tour’ production and will be performed at Calver Village Hall, Medway Centre, Bakewell and Wirksworth Town Hall, with the opening night being in Matlock at popular town centre venue the Imperial Rooms. Performances begin at 7.30 pm and are on 15 and 16 & 22 and 23 June 2012.

You can find out more details at www.matlock-musical-theatre.org.uk.The group can be contacted via the web site or on our facebook page.

We would appreciate the support of local businesses or organisations to act as sponsors for the society. Also new members are very warmly welcomed and we would love to hear from anyone who would like to be involved in the group, on stage, back stage, as part of the production team or just as a friend of the society.
