The Derbyshire Bat Conservation Group is pleased to announce that, due to overwhelming public demand, they will be hosting three unique bat viewing events in 2024 at Haddon Hall’s Chapel, Lower Courtyard, and Mediaeval Park. Attendees of these once-in-a-lifetime events will have the rare chance to use bat detectors to hear and identify various species of bats while also getting up close and personal with these fascinating little creatures in a breathtaking environment. In the 12th Century Chapel, a bat roost that is both beautiful and very active, experts from the Derbyshire Bat Conservation Group will give a fascinating 45-minute talk about the ecology of bats.
After that, you’ll get a bat detector so you can listen to the hundreds of bats in the chapel’s vaulted space and try to identify the Common, Soprano Pipistrelle, and Long-Eared bats. As the sun sets, head downstairs to the Lower Courtyard to observe the bats as they echolocate their way around the towers in search of insects. At long last, you reach the tranquil River Wye, where you can observe the swooping bats of Noctule and Daubenton as they glide across the water and the flower meadows.
Twenty percent of the proceeds will be donated to the Derbyshire Bat Conservation Group, whose mission is to safeguard bat populations in the region.
