Our young wizards and witches can create their own magical items to take home with them by creating broomsticks\, writing spells\, and participating in a rotating program of eerie craft activities in our 17th Century stables. \n\n\n\nThe hall itself then awaits. Because we are hosting our special autumn exhibition\, MAGIC\, Haddon will be even more captivating than usual. The exhibition\, which tells the tale of commonplace magic in Elizabethan England\, will be the ideal combination of amazing facts and captivating spectacle\, with wonders that will enchant both adults and children. Visitors to our Little School of Sorcery will be able to explore every room with a unique magical map that will enable them to identify Haddon Hall’s odd and intriguing secrets. \n\n\n\nAside from other enchanted surprises\, keep an eye out for the stunning Haddon owls that will be present in the banqueting hall on specific dates (to be confirmed). Families can also indulge in some ghoulish treats from Haddon’s restaurant\, which will be serving a Halloween-themed menu for the event\, before they leave for home. \n\n\n\nAlthough not required\, fancy attire is encouraged!

DESCRIPTION:Join us for the Halloween Term of the Little School of Ecology in Haddon Medieval Park! \n\n\n\nDue to the huge popularity of our Little School of Ecology this summer\, we are delighted to be able to offer three brand new events over Halloween – all with a spooky twist! \n\n\n\nChildren aged 5-11 years can explore our ancient parkland with our experienced guides\, learning about the plants and animals that call this place home and discovering the mysterious superstitions\, fascinating folklore and ancient beliefs that would have been so important to the people living and working here in the past. \n\n\n\nPlease note that the Little School of Ecology takes place within the unspoilt\, natural landscape of the Haddon Medieval Park. There are few paths\, the terrain is uneven in places and may be wet and/or muddy. SUMMARY:The Trees of Haddon Medieval Park
DESCRIPTION:Go behind the scenes into the private parkland that surrounds Haddon Hall and see the beautiful acres of Haddon Mediaeval Park\, which is the oldest and biggest rewilding project in the Peak District. The trees are the most important part of this old landscape. In the Middle Ages\, they would have been very important for getting wood for building and heating and cooking. There are more than 40 different kinds of plants and animals here\, and each one is home to a lot of birds\, small animals\, insects\, fungi\, and lichen. \n\n\n\nWe’re happy to have Jason Ingamells FRGS back this year to lead two Trees Walks in Haddon Mediaeval Park. Jason has led wildlife expeditions in the UK and around the world for more than 20 years. He has worked with the BBC\, the Royal Geographical Society\, the Eden Project\, and the National Forest. He loves the countryside and loves sharing what he knows with others. Jason will take you on a 2- to 3-hour walk through the Mediaeval Park’s different woodland areas\, where you can look at and take pictures of Haddon’s trees and the animals that live there. \n\n\n\nThis event is suitable for everyone over the age of 16 with a reasonable level of fitness. \n\n\n\nYour ticket includes a complimentary tea\, coffee or soft drink in our restaurant after the walk\, as well as half-price admission to Haddon Hall and its beautiful gardens on the same day. \n\n\n\nHaddon Hall is a privately-owned estate\, and one of the only houses in England to have remained in one family’s ownership for its entire existence. DESCRIPTION:Join Chatsworth Estate Ecologist Edmund Austin and Chatsworth Landscape Team Volunteer Co-ordinator George Hoey as they discuss the important work being undertaken across the estate to monitor bird populations and manage critical habitats. \n\n\n\nBackground to the talk\n\n\n\nChatsworth’s bioacoustics monitoring programme uses specialised recording devices to capture the sounds of wildlife across varied habitats.  \n\n\n\nBy scheduling surveys throughout the year\, we’ve been able to identify a range of migratory and non-migratory species and compare our results against SSSI national averages to inform long-term habitat management.   \n\n\n\nAlongside this\, we monitor bird boxes to track nesting success and ring both chicks and adults\, in partnership with the British Trust for Ornithology\, to gather essential data on bird populations and habitat health. \n\n\n\nIn this talk\, Edmund and George will share some of our exciting findings and how they have directly influenced the way in which the estate is managed.
