Visit Bakewell, The Peak District
Situated on the banks of the river Wye in the Derbyshire White Peaks (Peak District National Park), Bakewell offers a charming day out full of rich heritage and tradition. There is so much to see and do it is little wonder that visitors flock to it in great numbers year after year. Surrounded by glorious countryside, the town offers charming tea rooms set in cosy courtyards, impressive stone buildings, a traditional weekly market, a quaint five-arched bridge that goes back to Roman times, a Grade I listed church, a museum, historic almshouses, and various riverside attractions.
One of the most popular attractions in Bakewell is the beautiful Chatsworth House, a stately home located just a short drive from the town. The house, which dates back to the 16th century, is set in a beautiful park and is home to a collection of art, furniture, and other treasures. Visitors can take a tour of the house, wander through the gardens, and even try their hand at falconry.
Another popular destination in Bakewell is Haddon Hall, a medieval manor house located just outside of the town. The house has a rich history and has been used as a film location for many movies and TV shows. Visitors can take a tour of the house and gardens, and there are also many events and activities held at the hall throughout the year.
If you’re looking for something a little more low-key, there are many beautiful walks and hikes to be had in the surrounding countryside. The Peak District National Park, which Bakewell is a part of, is home to some of the most beautiful landscapes in England, with rolling hills, picturesque villages, and stunning views.
Of course, no visit to Bakewell would be complete without trying some of the town’s famous treats. The Bakewell tart, a dessert made with almond paste and puff pastry, is a must-try. The town is also home to many artisan food producers, including cheese makers, bakers, and brewers, so there are plenty of opportunities to sample local specialties.
