The Matlock Bath Illuminations run through September and October, with illuminated boats travelling along the River Derwent after dark.

Following the preview night on 12 September, the 2026 season continues every Saturday and Sunday from 19 September until 1 November, with an additional evening on Friday 30 October. The event runs from around 6pm to 9pm.

The illuminated boats are the distinctive feature of the event, with models built and decorated by the Matlock Bath Venetian Boat Builders’ Association.

There are fantastic firework displays every Saturday in October, plus the final night, Sunday 1 November. The fireworks light up the skies around Matlock Bath in multi-colours. The firework displays begin at 8.30pm.

Matlock Bath is south of Bakewell and makes a practical evening trip for visitors staying in the town or elsewhere in the central Peak District.
